The 海角社区 worked in partnership with TES between 2011 and 2019 to gather the views and experiences of those governing through a survey.

The survey aimed to gather the views of those who govern in order to inform and shape education policy and, in the absence of official data, to provide an overview of the state of school governance in England.

Over the years, the scope of the survey has increased along with the number of responses: 5,218 governors, trustees and academy committee members shared their views in this survey.

Read this report to find out more about the landscape of the education sector in 2018, including topics such as:

  • Views on the government鈥檚 performance
  • Academisation
  • Governance structures within multi academy trusts
  • Support services for young people and their families
  • Governance recruitment, retention and succession planning
  • Board diversity
  • 海角社区鈥檚 proposal for a fourth core function
  • “...This survey provides evidence, from the people who sign off school budgets, that schools are increasingly unable to provide a good quality of education because of funding. If we want to avoid negative effects on pupils, then simply, we need to increase the amount of money available to state funded schools overall.”
